Don't quote me on this, but I think all original engine reverse sleds don't oil in reverse. Typically a person is in reverse for short enough period and below 1/4 throttle no damage occurs. I am also interested in this engine reverse for $300. If it can be done without changing the ECU and wiring harness?
I'll second that notion. I'm pretty sure Ski-doo's engine reverse didn't oil until the late '00's, if then. One reason for the annoying beeper was to keep you from just sitting there idling in reverse.
With the excess oil that Cat sets most of these sleds up with, I don't think you're running much risk using reverse for the normal duration of a reverse event. Give a warning that reverse use should be kept to less than 30 seconds, or 60 seconds, and low throttle only.
To be honest, if some idiot wants to back down the trail at 30mph to show how cool he is, he'll quickly find out that rear steer is highly unstable at speed, and that fact will and remove him from the gene pool long before the engine seizes.
One last thing to think of... If the engine is running backwards, and you grab the pull start, it'll engage and immediately break the rope/your hand/internals. Not sure if that's protected for on sleds with factory engine reverse... (Anyone want to try it??)
Sure seems like a timing delay box (with about 330° of "delay") would do the trick at making most of these engines run in reverse at lower RPM's...
