Running board insert - anyone used these?

I just came across these in the ascender forum but they also make them for the M sleds. Has anyone used them and how do you like them?

I have a set I took off when I sold the sled. They worked good.

Did the buyer plan to replace the boards anyway, so taking off the inserts didn't matter? Seems like the stock boards wouldn't have much strength after cutting out the openings for snow evac.
