Yes, since about 1996 the beacons have been on a standard frequency. All beacons transmit and receive on the 457kHz frequency. Careful though, older beacons can tend to drift off of that frequency and will make it difficult for some beacons to pickup the signal if it has drifted much.

The benefits of the BCA is that it is digital and will guide you right to your friends SOS beacon without having to do a grid search. The SOS beacon is analog which will allow it to pick up your beacon's signal at a greater distance, but it will take a grid search to guide him to you. If he hasn't practiced much, this can be very time consuming.
